Yesterday was a snow day and we were all very excited to be home and enjoying some family fun! So to continue my one thing idea...I started my morning off connecting on Twitter. The educators in my PLN were sharing, posting, and learning. I read some great blog posts and added a few new ideas to my toolbox. The first post was on questioning in the classroom. Googleable or Not Googleable is the new question. We often talk about thick and thin questions, trying to get students to ask open-ended, deep questions but here is a concrete way to explain this topic. Can you Google the question and get an answer? If you say yes, then think of a deeper question! I love this idea and can't wait to try it out. My second favorite blog from yesterday was Upgrade your KWL chart to the 21st Century. KWL charts are a great scaffolding tool to have students ask questions about topics. I love the idea of adding information literacy skills to a tool used frequently in the classroom. Teaching Information literacy helps students learn how to learn, how to find and use information and that is by far a great way to empower a student.
The tool I played around with yesterday was Google Plus. I am trying to organize my friends into categories or circles. I even sent out a message/question to one circle. As I ponder this new social media tool, I wonder why I might need it. I am pretty connected with Diigo, Twitter, Facebook, and Skype. Some friends say it is awesome, so I will continue to tinker and share what I learn.
Today I have spent a lot of time prepping for the upcoming eMINTS Conference. I am presenting on the topic of coaching, specifically Cognitive CoachingSM and how using words in certain ways can open up someone's thinking. Check out this great video on how word choice makes a huge difference:

As I prep my session, I am learning about embedding Web 2.0 tools into my Weebly page so the session will be interactive. So far I plan to use Word Sift and Answer Garden. I am looking for a cool, multimedia way to share some quotes about Why coach? I love Weebly and I love learning how to use so many of the cool features this tool provides.
Wishing you a great day of learning! Make today great, learn, share, and learn some more! What a powerful cycle!
