Well, when I started this blog last week, I was going to post one new thing I learned each day. As you can tell from the posts, that hasn't happened. This is not because haven't learned anything. As I reflect on what is happening, I have let the posting and reflecting part of my learning go to the way side as life takes over. If I am truly going to think and reflect on the things I am learning, I need to take that time to reflect and think about the application. So I have learned many things since my last post. So here is a quick catch up!
Google Life- Here is a great primary resource. Google Life is an archive of Life Magazine photos dating back to 1750's. Most of these images have never been published! What an amazing way to help kids visually experience history.
We are so lucky to have the Internet and be able to access awesome primary resources. This week would have been my mom and dad's 46th wedding anniversary. My mom has been gone for almost 21 years now. She died of cancer when I was in college. Her stories are starting to fade with time. I love my dad's perspective on things, but I was curious and wanted to find their wedding announcement. Being curious and sentimental I began searching the Internet. Through this processI found a great resource Newspaper Archives. When you first look at the site, you think you have to pay for it. I signed up for an account and discovered you can view two articles per day for free. You can also save these articles as PDFs. I was amazed at how easily I found their announcement. I saved it as PDF and sent to my family. It was awesome to see the detail of the writing. It was also fun to read the other articles on the page. It was a treasured find!

On my theme of primary resources, I had the privilege of visiting some amazing eMINTS teachers at East Elementary School in Jefferson City! During this time a third grade class was studying Black History Month. The visitors I had with me were from Alabama and shared their first hand experience with segregation, the sit-ins in Tuskegee, and the joy when schools were integrated. The passion in the story was amazing and the third grade children were mesmerized. I learned the importance of making history come alive!
Finally, I am in Columbia with all my eMINTS friends for our annual conference! I love this time of the year! It is such joy to reconnect and get energized by these awesome educators! It makes me so happy and I am blessed to have all these people in my life! Each year I reconnect with old friends and make new friends and I learn lots!
